CSU Advise

CSU ADVISE  CSU ADVISE serves as a central resource for students, providing guidance and support related to academic programs, student services, and other opportunities available at Columbus State University. The office operates under a coaching model aligned with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) framework, emphasizing a student-centered, strengths-based approach that fosters self-efficacy and personal growth.

Academic Success Coaching

Academic Success Coaching at CSU ADVISE supports students at all classifications as they navigate their academic journey, explore majors, and develop clear pathways to degree completion. Using principles from the ICF Core Competencies, coaches engage students in a process that promotes self-discovery, goal setting, and personal accountability. Key components include:

  • Building a Coaching Relationship: Coaches establish a trusting, collaborative partnership with students, listening actively and demonstrating empathy to understand their academic and personal challenges.
  • Encouraging Self-Reflection and Awareness: Students engage in guided reflection to assess their strengths, learning preferences, and academic habits, empowering them to take ownership of their success.
  • Clarifying Goals and Creating Action Plans: Coaches help students define their academic and professional aspirations and develop personalized, actionable steps to achieve them.
  • Enhancing Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Through powerful questioning and strategic conversations, coaches support students in identifying obstacles, exploring solutions, and making informed academic decisions.
  • Promoting Accountability and Growth: Coaches provide ongoing support and encouragement, helping students track their progress and adjust their strategies to overcome challenges.

Additional Support Initiatives

CSU ADVISE also implements the University Support program, providing targeted coaching and academic recovery strategies for students on University Support Standing. This initiative aligns with the coaching model by fostering resilience, self-advocacy, and a proactive approach to academic success.

Through the integration of ICF coaching principles, CSU ADVISE ensures that students receive holistic, strengths-based support, equipping them with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive academically and professionally.
